Abstract

Purpose: This study identified research trends and related factors that affect the quality of life in patients with thyroid cancer.

Method: The study analyzed 41 studies on the quality of life in patients with thyroid cancer that were published domestically and internationally before the end of December, 2014. Key words used for searching were: thyroid cancer, thyroid carcinoma, thyroid neoplasms, quality of life, health related quality of life that were found on web sites specifically RISS, the National Assembly Library, NDSL, Pubmed and CINAHL. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

Results: The number of studies has increased from 2011 to 2014 in comparison to 2005. Non-experimental design was 90.2%. Majority of the subjects (53.7%) were between 45-54 years of age. Treatment phase of subjects was the highest in routine follow-up (46.3%). Instruments were most frequently targeted the general population (37.8%). Factors related with quality of life in patients with thyroid cancer were general- (37.9%), psychological- (36.4%), physical- (9.6%), treatment-related- (8.4%), disease-related (7.3%), respectively.

Conclusion: This study suggests to confirm the correlation between the quality of life and relative factors (age, fatigue, anxiety, & depression) and suggests to develop nursing intervention to improve the quality of life.
